(JTA) — Israel returned artillery fire into Lebanon after three Katyusha rockets hit northwestern Israel.
Israel Radio and Ha’aretz newspaper reported the rocket hits Friday afternoon, recording no injuries and no damage.
Israeli army artillery returned fire in direction of the launching of the rockets. Foreign media said the rockets were launched from the area of Tyre.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was consulting with his Cabinet, Israel Radio said. It quoted anonymous officials as saying that the Lebanese government would be held responsible for the rocket fire.
Tensions have increased in recent weeks between Israel and Lebanon, related in part to Hezbollah’s massive rearming after its 2006 war with Israel.
