Reaction is beginning to come in from Jewish organizations to Friday’s revelations of a secret underground Iranian uranium enrichment facility:
- American Jewish Committee: "Further incontrovertible proof that any assurances from Iranian leaders about the nature and scope of their nuclear program are worthless. Whether they are denying the Holocaust or trying to fool us over their nuclear ambitions, it’s clear that lying is what Iran’s leaders do best."
- Americans for Peace Now: "President Obama did the right thing today when he sent a message to Iran — and to the Iranian people – that Iran must live up to its international obligations, that the nuclear issue must be resolved, and that Iran’s government has a very real opportunity to do so through negotiations. The president is not taking any options off the table, but by emphasizing the potential for engagement rather than for confrontation, he is adopting what APN has long argued is the most effective strategy for handling this threat."
- Conference of Presidents: "The time is now, not months from now, to determine the most effective and impactful sanctions and implement them. Should the UN Security Council not be able to muster the votes necessary, then Europe, the US and other nations should act outside of the framework of that body. Further delay will only ensure new revelations of additional facilities and capacities that are part of President Ahmadinejad’s drive to acquire nuclear weapons capacities. "
