BERLIN (JTA) — A new German-Jewish motorcycle club joined in a cross-country political tour of Germany.
Friday’s event with "Hillel’s Angels" of Germany and the "Eurobiker" political motorcycle club of Europe, from Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, to Berlin, the capital of united Germany, marked three historic dates: 60 years since the adoption of the West German Constitution; 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, leading to a united Germany; and ten years since the first motorcycle rally of legislators and parliament staff from Bonn to Berlin.
The two-day "Deutschland Tour," under the patronage of the president of the upper house of the German Parliament, Peter Müller, began early on Friday in front of the former Bundestag building in Bonn and, after several stops, paused for a ceremony at the memorial at the former Buchenwald concentration camp near Weimar in the former East German state of Thuringia.
For those not observing the Sabbath, the journey continued Saturday, stopping at various sites of historic pro-Democracy demonstrations that took place before the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago in November.
