NEW YORK (JTA) — British Jews expressed concern over the appearance of two rightist European politicians at a Conservative Party rally.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews wrote Wednesday to Conservative leader David Cameron concerning the participation of European Parliament lawmakers Michal Kaminski of Poland and Robert Zile of Latvia at the party rally held the day before, the BBC reported.
Board of Deputies officials said President Vivian Wineman asked Cameron in the letter for "reassurances" regarding the politicians’ appearance at the meeting.The letter was not made public.
British Foreign Minister David Miliband lambasted Conservatives last week for allying with Zile and Kamniski, who are affiliated with parties he said were tainted with anti-Semitisim.
Miliband, of the Labor Party, accused Kaminski’s Law and Justice Party of anti-Semitism. He also attacked Zile’s Fatherland and Freedom organization for participating in a march honoring the Latvian Waffen SS, which fought alongside Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union during World War II.
