It turns out that David Goldman, the father of Sean Goldman, he boy at the center of the Brazil-U.S. custody dispute is Jewish.
We’ve informally wondered for as long as this has been going on, but have not pressed it, because it didn’t seem an issue.
It became an issue in today’s New York Times coverage of Sean’s release (finally) to his father:
Sean’s Brazilian family had criticized court rulings that compelled the handover on Christmas Eve. Ms. Apy [Patricial Apy, David Goldman’s lawyer] pointed out that Sean was originally raised in a “religiously blended household” — his mother was Catholic, his father Jewish.
“I believe that he will enjoy both holidays,” she said.
So, it sounds like a belated Chanukah for Sean.
