(JTA) — Police are investigating an attack on a synagogue in the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

A bomb packed with nails blew up after it was thrown in the courtyard of the synagogue in Bishkek an hour before the start of Rosh Hashanah services on Sept. 9, Radio Free Europe reported. The bomb landed in a small pool of water, which minimized the damage, according to the report.

There are at least 1,300 Jews in Kyrgyzstan, the majority in Bishkek. The synagogue was firebombed in April after the government was overthrown in a coup.
