(JTA) — New York University apologized to students and staff for sending a mass e-mail on Yom Kippur.
In an e-mail sent to the university community, the university’s Office of Public Affairs apologized for sending out the university president’s academic year report on Friday evening, Sept. 17, the NYU Washington Square News reported Monday.
The report was supposed to be sent during the day on Friday, but was delayed due to technical problems, the letter said.
The apology sent Sunday was meant to pre-empt complaints about the e-mail’s poor timing, Vice President for Public Affairs John Beckman told the NYU student daily newspaper.
Some Jewish students at NYU reportedly were upset that the second day of classes fell on the first day of Rosh Hashanah.
