(JTA) — Some 700 people lit Chanukah menorahs simultaneously at a suburban New York synagogue in a bid to break a world record.
The guests at the Merrick Jewish Centre on Wednesday, the second night of Chanukah, were trying to snap the mark for the most menorahs kindled at the same time.
If deemed successful, the Long Island effort would beat the record set in 2009, when 358 people lit menorahs simultaneously at a nightclub in Moscow.
