Vietor: Israel didn’t ask for a DC meeting

Much has already been made of a report that the Obama administration turned down Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request for a meeting in New York during U.N. General Assembly later this month.

When Tommy Vietor, the National Security Council spokesman, explained that the two men wouldn’t be in the city on the same day, some (especially on Twitter) saw it as a feint because the original Haaretz story said Bibi offered to come to DC.

Now Vietor categorically denies this. In an email update, he tells reporters:

Contrary to previous press reports, there was never any request for a meeting between the Prime Minister and President in Washington, nor was this request ever denied.
