(JTA) — The British soccer club Chelsea is investigating charges of verbal abuse by the team’s fans against an Israeli player.
Yossi Benayoun was targeted by fans for abuse April 20 when he entered the game as a substitute.
Benayoun called the abuse "crossing the limit" in a tweet the following day.
The verbal attacks have been characterized as anti-Semitic by British media.
Benayoun’s three-year contract with Chelsea ends this summer.
