(JTA) – A Michigan court dismissed a petition to split the $1 billion foundation of the late Jewish businessman William Davidson in half.

The Oakland County Probate Court last week rejected the plea by Jonathan Aaron, Davidson’s son-in-law and the president of the William Davidson Foundation, to divide the endowment, Crain’s Detroit Business reported Monday.

The court cited a lack of jurisdiction; the foundation is incorporated in Delaware.

Davidson’s widow, Karen, and son, Ethan, opposed the petition.

Crain’s said the circumstances of the disagreement within the Davidson family were not publicly disclosed.

Davidson, who owned the National Basketball Association’s Detroit Pistons, died in 2009 at the age of 86.
