Pathetic scenes were enacted in a Haifa court room today when Magistrate Curry sentenced thirty-two Polish Jewish girls and four men to serve three-month sentences in jail and recommended deportation for the entire group at the end of their sentences for having entered Palestine and settled there illegally.
The girls created a commotion in the court. Several fainted, while the others wept bitterly. The group were removed in prison vans to the jail at Bethlehem, where they are to serve their sentences. No one was allowed to approach or talk with the prisoners. The prisoners were arrested near Tiberias on July 7 and have been detained.
