An appeal has been lodged with the League of Nations against the expulsion of several thousand Jews from Bessarabia, across the Dniestr to Russia.
The Committee of Jewish Delegations, a body representing organizations in various countries banded together for the safeguarding of Jewish rights, has submitted to the League of Nations that the expulsion of the Jews who are refugees from the Ukraine and Russia is in contravention of the Bucharest Government’s order, staying the expulsion pending arrangements for the voluntary departure of the refugees under the auspices of Dr. Nansen’s Russian Refugee Committee and appropriate Jewish organizations.
Deportation of the refugees across the river to Russia began on Yom Kippur when four thousand unsuspecting refugees were seized and held by the authorities. Since that day hundreds of refugees are being sent across the frontier daily.
