Nine of the ten Jewish activists arrested in Moscow before President Nixon’s arrival have been released now that Nixon has left the Soviet Union, it was reported today by the National Conference on Soviet Jewry. The nine are Vladimir Slepak, Aleksander Slepak, Joseph Begun, Victor Polsky, Boris Orlov, Valentine Prussakov, Roman Rutman, Lev Lebov and Leonid Tsypin. Vladimir Prestin is still being held, and according to unconfirmed reports has been given an additional 15-day term for “hooliganism.”
Israeli officials reported that the largest number of Soviet immigrants in Israel’s history arrived this week, adding that during President Nixon’s visit to Moscow the largest number of newcomers ever recorded in a seven-day period arrived. They said this was pure coincidence. No official figures on the number of newcomers were given.
