A bill was introduced in Australia’s Parliament that would allow the country to extradite suspected Nazi war criminals more easily. Justice Minister Amanda Vanstone, describing the existing law as “onerous,” told Parliament that this would enable Australia to cooperate in international efforts to bring Nazi criminals to justice. Australia refused to deport alleged Nazi war criminals such as Konrad Kalejs to his home country of Latvia in May, saying there was not sufficient evidence to deport him.
