A former British foreign secretary has suggested that Israel, “Palestine” and Jordan be encouraged to join the Commonwealth, the loose association joining Britain and its former colonies. “What better way of providing a forum where Israelis and Palestinians could plan their common future?” asked Malcolm Rifkind, who is Jewish, in the Times of London on Friday.
