A German politician proposed a rotating chancellorship for his country based on an Israeli model from the 1980s. Parliament member Peter Gauweiler of the Christian Socialist Union Party told the Suddeutsche Zeitung that conservative Angela Merkel could take the position for two years, handing it over to Gerhard Schroeder of the Social Democratic Party for another two years.
