A Jewish organization and a leading advocate of religious freedom issues protested the U.S. State Department’s decision to invite several Islamic groups to participate in a religious freedom event. The Zionist Organization of America and Michael Horowitz, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, said the American Muslim Council, the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the American Muslim Foundation have expressed support for militant Islamic groups and known terrorists, and have actively defended regimes that engage in religious persecution abroad.
