A novel by Philip Roth and a story about how a young girl’s triumph in a spelling bee triggers a family revolution are among the fiction nominees in the 51st National Jewish Book Awards. In addition to “The Human Stain” and “Bee Season,” journalist Samuel Freedman was nominated in the nonfiction category for “Jew vs. Jew,” his description of conflict within the American Jewish community.
