A play that many consider to be anti-Semitic opened in Italy. One of the characters in “Garbage, the City and Death,” is a rich Jewish real estate speculator who supposedly was based on Ignatz Bubis, who is now the leader of Germany’s Jewish community. The play, written in 1975, has been performed in various countries, including the United States, but it has never been publicly performed in Germany.
