A, resolution mourning the recent death of Victor J. Dowling, former presiding justice of the Appellate Division and vice-president of the Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi League, was adopted at a special meeting of the board of directors of the League. Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, first vice-president of the League, presided. Messages of condolence from the League were sent to the family.
The resolution said in part: “We knew him as an alert mind and a compassionate heart that was touched even by the suffering of people thousands of miles away. He joined our cause wholeheartedly to do his share to check the Hitler menace to the world. In the passing of Victor J. Dowling liberalism and justice have lost an important leader.”
