Nearly a third of all Israelis light up daily, according to figures released by the Health Ministry in conjunction with the observance of the World Health Organization’s International No Smoking Day.
The ministry said of those Israelis who smoke, 30 percent smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day.
On an upbeat note, the ministry noted a relative drop in smokers in the 18-24 age group. Legislation against smoking in public places was recently adopted.
