Abraham S. Hyman, former General Counsel of the United States War Claims Commission, has been appointed administrative director of the World Jewish Congress, it was announced today by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, acting president of the world-wide Jewish body.
In his new post, Mr. Hyman will coordinate the activities of the three branches of the World Jewish Congress executive, in the Western Hemisphere, Europe and Israel, and will be the senior administrative officer of the organization, with which Jewish communities and organizations in more than 60 nations, including the American Jewish Congress in the United States, are affiliated.
As General Counsel of the War Claims Commission, Mr. Hyman directed the first major study on war claims undertaken by the U.S. and prepared the Commission’s report, which was recently submitted to the Congress. During World War II, Mr. Hyman was commissioned in the Field Artillery. A Major in the Military Justice Section of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate’s office in Europe, he was one of the chief reviewers of major cases tried in the European Theater of Operations.
