The appointment of Dr. Walter I. Ackerman as director of the department of education of the United Synagogue of America was announced today by its executive director Dr. Bernard Segal. The United Synagogue of America is the congregational arm of the Conservative movement in Judaism.The department of education serves the schools of the organization’s synagogue affiliates in the U.S. and Canada.
Dr. Ackerman was also named director of the United Synagogue’s Commission on Jewish Education, which provides curricula and study materials for a nationwide network of Hebrew schools, including the Solomon Schechter day school system. The Commission is one of the country’s leading publishers of Jewish textbooks in Hebrew and English.
