It was learned from authoritative sources today that the Jewish Agency for Palestine has applied to the Palestine Government for 11,000 certificates to cover labor immigration from April to October.
The request, it is understood, was partially based on the many demands for Jewish workers expected in connection with construction and operation of the new Rutenberg electric station.
It also cited the findings of the mixed Government commission which recently investigated Palestine labor possibilities and established that there was work available at the present time for 8,000 new Jewish workers.
Colonial Secretary William Ormsby-Gore and High Commissioner Sir Arthur Wauchope will decide on the schedule. Only 1,800 certificates were granted for the period from October, 1936, to April, 1937.
