Al-Qaida renewed its call for Muslims to attack Jews and the United States.
“Muslims! Today is your day,” Osama bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, said in a voice recording posted Monday on the Internet. “Hit the interests of the Jews and the Americans and all those who participated in the aggression against Muslims.”
Zawahri appeared to be referring to Israel’s offensive against Hamas rocket crews in the Gaza Strip this month in which scores of Palestinians, among them civilians, were killed.
“Monitor the targets, collect the money, prepare the ordnance, plan accurately — and then attack,” Zawahri said. “No one can say today that we should fight the Jews in Palestine only.”
The message also denounced Denmark for its cartoons lampooning the prophet Mohammed, and Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia for their ties to the West.
