Alan Dershowitz and other Jewish Democrats warned that President Bush’s choice for the Supreme Court could determine the fate of the constitutional separation of church and state. In a letter Tuesday to members of the National Jewish Democratic Council, the Harvard law school professor, together with NJDC National Chairman Arthur Schechter, wrote that outgoing Justice Sandra Day O’Connor “kept the wall of separation between church and state standing” during her time on the bench, and warned that a more conservative nominee may jeopardize religious liberty.
