Foreign Minister Yigal Allon left for Bonn this morning for a series of economic conferences aimed, he said, at reducing Israel’s $430 million deficit in its trade with West Germany. Allon is heading the Israeli delegation to the first meeting of the joint Israeli-German Ministerial Commission on Economic Relations.
The group was set up by the two countries to encourage trade, investments and exchange of scientific and technological information on the governmental level. Before departing, Allon reiterated his earlier denial that he would meet South African Prime Minister John Vorster who is presently visiting West Germany or Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger who is also in Bonn. Vorster is expected to leave West Germany before Allon’s arrival.
Referring to the political situation, Allon said he knew of no Syrian threat against Israel arising from its intervention in Lebanon. However, he said, he had no illusions about Israel’s security problems once the Lebanese conflict is settled.
