Professor Max Alsberg, internationally known teacher of law and famous as an attorney, committed suicide yesterday at Samadem, Switzerland. Professor Alsberg was fifty-six years old. He was of Jewish descent, but had been converted to Christianity in his youth.
Professor Alsberg was born in Bonn, Germany, November 16, 1877. He was the author of many books on legal subjects, including one called “The Trial of Socrates in the Light of Modern Jurisprudence and Psychology.” He was associate publisher of the Wissenschaftliches Zeitschrift. Professor Alsberg was a specialist in defense in important criminal cases. He defended Vice-Chancellor von Helfferich in the trial against Mathias Erzberger. He was defense attorney in some of the most sensational cases all over Germany in the last twenty years. He was a collector of antique art. Nazi restrictions barred him from practice of his profession.
