Asserting that the celebration of Passover this ### is the prelude to the establishment of what will become an “heroic and noble ##ea,” Rabbi Stephen S. Wise told an assembled 5,000 guests at the l6th annual third Seder” of the National Committee for Labor Palestine held here today at the ##el Astor, that the Jews “are on the march.” He hailed the coming establishment the Jewish state as the fulfillment of the age-old dream of the Jewish people for ##ional independence.
Throughout the United States this week-end Jews celebrated Passover with ##ir attention focused on the Palestine situation. In pulpits in various cities ### towns, rabbis emphasized the parallel between the story of the Exodus and the Palestine developments of today. They urged the United Nations to study the ancient #### and learn from it that the forces of right will conquer in the face of military #### political might.
Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the Zionist Organization of America, in his ##sover message declared: “This year’s festival of freedom will sound a message of ##e freedom, both spiritual and political, for the Jewish community of Palestine and the Jewish people everywhere. The bells of freedom and independence that were rang America in 1776 are now pealing forth in another bastion of democracy, in Jewish Palestine.”
At the “Third Seder,” Don Pines, Histadruth delegate in the United States, ###d that the “Jewish state that will come into being on May 16 will be an “American ##te. By that I mean it will adhere closely to the principles of democracy and freedom which are the foundations of this great country. All talk about the Jewish state ##ing anti-American in its foreign policy is nonsense, as it is from this country that ### material and moral support has come which have made possible the achievement of ### ancient dream of the Jewish people for national independence,” he concluded.
Congressman Jacob K. Javits told the assemblage that the “United States is ### pursuing a pro-Arab policy on Palestine. It is difficult to see how any other interpretation can be placed by the Arabs on its actions.” A trusteeship would freeze ### status quo and would be “exactly what the Arabs want.” Javits added.
