The Austrian Government can do nothing to prevent former German generals from visiting this country to attend meetings of veterans of the Nazi army, nor can it prevent them from making ultra-nationalistic speeches, Minister of Interior Oskar Helmer conceded today in Parliament.
Herr Helmer told the deputies that he had advised visiting Nazi ex-generals against making German nationalistic speeches, but his advice was disregarded. The most recent such case, he said, had occurred when a former high Nazi officer had harangued a veterans’ meeting in Graz.
