The Department of State has received information that the Austrian Government is now accepting applications for benefits under the 12th Amendment to the Austrian Victims Welfare Law.
The law provides for compensation for imprisonment in a concentration camp. But no compensation will be paid for such imprisonment if the income of the victim and/or survivor in each of the years 1955-1960 exceeded $2,880.
Also compensable were emigration to escape persecution and subsequent internment by a power at war with Germany, forcible detention in a ghetto, being forced to live in hiding under conditions incompatible with human dignity, forcible removal from Austria, and the wearing of a Jewish Star, the Star of David, for at least six months.
Persons who were Austrian citizens on March 13, 1938, or who for a period of 10 years prior thereto had their residence within the territory of the Republic of Austria, regardless of their present nationality, should request claim applications from the Amt der Wiener Landesregierung, Magistratsabteilung 12, Gonzagagasse 23, Vienna.
