The British Government today rejected a request made in the House of Commons that funds raised in England by the Joint Palestine Appeal be frozen in England and prevented from reaching Palestine.
The request was made by Major E.A.H. Legge-Bourke, Conservative, who told Parliament that Jews in Britain have raised $800,000 “for arming Jews in Palestine,” He urged that the transfer of the money be halted, However, a government spokesman explained that under existing legislation no action can be taken to prevent the transfer of funds from Britain to Palestine.
A resolution stressing that the new Jewish state in Palestine cannot claim or receive any kind of national attachment from the Jews of other lands was adopted here today at the annual meeting of the Jewish Fellowship, British anti-Zionist organization.
The resolution also reaffirmed the “complete allegiance” of British Jews to Britain and demanded that Britain withdraw from Palestine as soon as possible in order to save British lives. The meeting also warned Jews, particularly women and children, from immigrating to Palestine in a time of “serious danger.” The delegates called for the admission of DP’s to all countries of the world.
A message wishing Jewish youth in Palestine “happiness and prosperity in its new era and hoping that it will use its utmost endeavors to promote the peace well-being of all inhabitants of the country” was adopted here today at the annual conference of the Association of Jewish Youth, comprising 70 organizations with a combined membership of 11,000.
