Dr. Iosif Begun, a Soviet Jewish activist, is expected to go on trial shortly for being without a job despite the fact the activist had earned a living giving private Hebrew and mathematics lessons, it was reported by the National Conference on Soviet Jewry (NCSJ). Soviet authorities consistently refused to certify Begun, though two Leningrad activists did receive permission to teach Hebrew. Begun was one of two activists detained while attempting to enter the American Embassy in Moscow in February, 1977.
