The Israel Cabinet met today to hear a report on the discussions between Premier David Ben Gurion and United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold which led to the cease-fire announced here today. At the same time, the Cabinet approved a new emergency defense tax which will be introduced in Parliament Sunday.
Meanwhile, an Israeli military patrol clashed with Jordanian forces near Nechusha, in the Lachish area, today. One Jordanian was killed and one Israeli car was stolen and driven across the border. The Jordanians opened the engagement with a fusillade of rifle and machine gun bullets.
