A memorial to the martyrs of Nazi terror was unveiled by the West Berlin city government in the borough of Reinickendorf, as part of the annual commemoration for the victims of Hitlerism.
A human body strapped to a wheel, the spokes of which form a swastika, is the memorial’s sculptured theme. Annedore Leber, widow of a Socialist leader killed by the Nazis and a courageous fighter against their resurgence, delivered the dedicatory address. Franz Neumann, Berlin chairman of the Social Democratic Party, deplored the inadequacy of indemnification for Nazi victims.
