The position of B’nai B’rith as a sponsor of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany in demanding indemnification for the losses suffered by European Jewry was unanimously approved at the closing session of the B’nai B’rith national executive committee.
Frank Goldman, national president of the order, will leave for London in the near future to participate in the conference, it was made known. Speaking for the B’nai B’rith and its 1,500 lodges throughout the United States, the executive committee stressed that Germany was morally obligated to satisfy Jewish claims as presented by Israel and by the Conference on behalf of Jewish communities throughout the world. The resolution also called attention to the claim for restitution by B’nai B’rith for the loss of property by its lodges in Germany.
B’nai B’rith went on record in protest against the recent execution by the Iraqi Government of two Jewish youths who were convicted of “terrorism” on the basis of extorted “confessions.”
Other resolutions asked for expansion of United Nations efforts in checking on the observance of human rights, and the creation of a United Nations committee to make an objective and factual survey of the practice and protection of religious freedom throughout the world, particularly in countries behind the Iron Curtain and in Arab countries.
