The 54th annual convention of Bnai Zion concluded here last night with the adoption of a resolution affirming the Zionist fraternal order’s “wholehearted support of the heroic struggle now being waged throughout this land by our Negro fellow Americans to achieve just and lawful rights. ” Norman G. Levine was reelected national president.
Other resolutions adopted by the 400 delegates called for ratification by the U. S. Congress of the United Nations Genocide Convention outlawing mass-murder and enactment of President Kennedy’s Medicare program.
Ambassador Michael Comay, head of Israel’s delegation to the United Nations, addressed the delegates on the current situation in the Middle East. He blamed current tensions in the region on “Nasser’s empire-building and his attempts to establish control over smaller and weaker countries in that area. “
The Israeli diplomat said “these efforts were being watched very closely by Israel because any pooling of Arab military resources would increase the threat to Israel, ” Israel’s defense capability and international support for her independence, especially from the United States are the dual deterrents to anti-Israel aggression, he said.
