New England Jewry will formulate its attitude towards the most important problem in the upbuilding of Palestine as the Jewish National Home— the land problem—at an extraordinary Palestine land redemption conference at the Hotel Statler, Sunday.
Representatives of Jewish communities, of Zionist groups, regardless of party affiliation, and of general Jewish organizations interested in the upbuilding of Palestine will attend the conference. The meeting Sunday will constitute another step forward in the mobilization of Jewish public opinion in the United States in response to the call of the Jewish National Fund, the agency of the Zionist movement which is dedicated to the acquisition and reclamation of the soil of Eretz Israel as national property and which is now carrying on a nation-wide effort to raise for this purpose the amount of $500,000.
CONFERENCES ELSEWHERE
Regional conferences of a similar nature have been held and are being planned in all parts of the country. From the local gathering will emanate a call to New England Jewry regarding its duty towards the solution of the Palestine land problem, with a view of providing more room for the constant influx from Germany and other lands of oppression of refugees as well as pioneers.
Maurice Samuel, author, publicist and orator, will be the principal speaker at the session, which an estimated 500 delegates will attend. Mendel N. Fisher, well-known to Boston Jewry because of his former affiliation with Zionist and Jewish affairs in New England, who is now national campaign director of the Jewish National Fund, will present the campaign plan.
Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the Jewish National Fund, who will be unable to attend the conference, and whose message to the delegates will be presented at the morning session, stated in a special statement issued in New York, that the Palestine land redemption campaign is well under way in various parts of the country and that the decision of New England Jewry at Sunday’s conference will provide a powerful stimulus as well as example to Jewish communities in other parts of the country.
Philip Potash, Jewish National Fund field representative for New England, who has been in charge of arrangements preliminary to the conference, declared that Sunday’s gathering will also serve as a preparatory step for the launching of the Keren-Kayemeth fund-raising effort in Boston.
