Britain and the four other members of the Western Union tonight announced that they will grant Israel de facto recognition.
A Joint communique issued by the Consultative Council of the Western Union said that “the stage has not been reached at which de facto recognition could be given to the Government of Israel. Since France has already recognized the Jewish state, the announcement applies to Britain, Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg.
