An authoritative British source today discounted a statement made at a recent meeting of the Board of Deputies of British Jews to the effect that British de jure recognition of Israel could be expected in the near future.
“We are quite happy with the present relationship,” the same source said. He pointed out that full relations exist in the spirit, if not in the letter. Formal de jure recognition, he suggested, may follow conclusion of a peace treaty with at least one Arab country and definition of Israels borders.
The first national Mixrachi conference in Britain since the establishment of the state of Israel unanimously adopted a resolution calling on the British Government and other countries to “give every support” to the new state to enable it to carry out its large-scale programs of immigrant absorption.
