Enlistment of Palestinian volunteers for British military units has exceeded expectations, it was learned today.
The quota of volunteers for the technical units is nearing completion, with 2,000 having already enlisted. With the first two Jewish units expected to be completed in the next week, it is understood that the success of the enlistments is encouraging the authorities to continue and extend the recruiting.
The military authorities are represented as highly satisfied by the speed of the enlistments and the intelligence and other qualifications of the men.
Meanwhile, the Jewish colony of Zichron Jacob, famous as a wine producing center, gave a reception for British and Australian units under their officers. All joined in the Hebrew toast, “L chaim,” and cheers for victory in the Rothschild wine cellars.
