A British Government spokesman dodged questions in Commons today on the extent of British arming of Egypt and consequent increase of Middle East tension.

Under questioning by Laborites, A. R. W. Low, President of the Board of Trade, denied that Britain had increased tension by shipping arms to Nasser and promised to circulate figures supporting his contention. When he was asked how much equipment had been shipped to Egypt after the British Government had learned of the Czech Egyptian arms pact, he replied “that’s another question” and refused further comment.
