Canadian Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent and Roch Pinard, Secretary of State and Acting Minister of External Affairs, met with a delegation of the Canadian Jewish Congress and the United Zionist Council, to discuss matters arising out of the emergency situation of the Soviet arming of Egypt. Mr. Samuel Bronfman, president of the CJC, speaking for the joint delegation, informed the Prime Minister of the views of the Canadian Jewish community and the dangers inherent in the one-sided arms program.
It was announced here today that Canada will invite Moshe Sharett, Israel’s Foreign Minister to visit the country during his present stay in the United States. An announcement made today also said that Lester B. Pearson, Secretary of State for External Affairs, returning from the Far East, would stop in Cairo but would not make an extra stop in Israel. The call at Cairo was planned to return the visit made this summer by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Dr. Mahmoud Fawzi.
