President Carter received 247 members of the National Cabinet of the United Jewish Appeal at the White House lost Thursday and they presented him with a plaque bearing in Hebrew the passage from Micah that the President had used in his inaugural address three-and-a-half years ago.
The presentation was mode by Irwin Field, UJA national chairman. The inscription was sculptured an a stone mounted on the plaque. The translation of it in English, on the back of the plaque read: “He has showed thee, a man, what is good and what does the lord require of thee but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God.”
The President was reported as very pleased with the gift and the inscription from Micah. The UJA leaders, who came here at the President’s invitation, were addressed by the President, National Security Council chairman Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Assistant Secretary of State for Near East and Southeast Asian Affairs Harold Sounders. The session, which lasted for more than 90 minutes, was closed to the press. Reporters were informed later that while the three speakers discussed the Arab-Israeli situation and other matters, no new substantive statements were mode.
