Moses Chelouche, a Municipal Councillor, was elected mayor of Tel Aviv today by the council to succeed Meier Dizongoff, who died on Sept. 23.
Mr. Chelouche was designated by a vote of 8 to 7 with the support of the Laborite and Progressive councillors. The other leading aspirant for the mayoralty was Vice-Mayor Israel Rokach.
Mr. Chelouche is Consul-General of Bulgaria here. Recently, he negotiated a trade agreement between Palestine and Rumania.
