The Committee of Zionist Contributors to the United Jewish Appeal, In an open letter signed by 21 members from communities throughout the country, and addressed to the chairmen of the two major constituent agencies |of the U.J.A–the Joint Distribution Committee and the United Palestine Appeal–to-day called for the immediate launching of the United Jewish Appeal campaign for I949 without waiting for the selection of a general chairman.
Declaring that “the acceptance of Henry Montor is an Impossibility” and that Henry Morgenthau, Jr., would be acceptable only without Montor,” the Committee ex pressed conviction that there was no use for further delay in organizing the U.J.A, campaign since “every hour of delay is paid for by the lives and suffering of Jews in Europe and Israel.”
