Conference in Paris Decides to Create World Federation of Jewish War Veterans

The creation of a worldwide organization of Jewish veterans was decided upon yesterday at the conclusion of a conference attended by Army representatives of the Jewish Brigade, the U.S. Army. French Maquis, Polish Army and partisans, and Belgian resistance groups.

A provisional committee was given the task of convoking a full conference, including members of all Jewish veteran organizations throughout the world, for formal creation of the new group within the next few months. The aims of the organization will be; to unite Jewish war veterans, to defend Jews everywhere and to support the struggle of the Jewish people for freedom, immigration to Palestine and national stateland. The conference protested against the conduct of the Belsen trials and asked for independent Jewish representation at the forthcoming Nuremberg trials.

David Ben Gurion, chairman of the executive of the Jewish Agency, in a speech to the conference emphasized the tragic character of the present conflict between the British and Jews and stressed the determination of Jews to fight “for their legitimate rights.” A white and blue flag of the French Jewish Maquis was presented to Ben Gurion by capt. Pierre Loeb of the Maquie.
