One million dollars was pledged as its quota in the $25,000,000 national goal of the United Jewish Appeal, by the Council of Jewish Organizations of the UJA at a conference at the Manhattan Center yesterday. Three thousand delegates, representing fraternal, community and religious groups, with a membership of 500,000 persons, were present.
The conference was addressed by Dr. Joseph Schwartz, chairman of the European executive council of the Joint Distribution Committee, Judge Jonah J. Goldstein, Henri Torres, the well-known French-Jewish lawyer and others.
