The Conference on Jewish Relations announced today that it is starting a quarterly journal, Jewish Social Studies, “devoted to contemporary and historical aspects of Jewish life.” The first issue is expected to appear in July.
The quarterly will seek to promote “serious and scholarly research in the fields of Jewish social, economic, political problems and to provide a place where such studies may be made available for a wide circle of students and readers.”
The editors are Prof. Salo W. Baron, of Columbia, and Prof. Hans Kohn, of Smith University, Koppel S. Pinson is managing editor, Melvin M. Fagen, assistant editor, and the editorial council, headed by Prof. Morris R. Cohen, president of the Conference, includes also Monroe G. Deutsch, Oscar I. Janowsky, I.L. Kandel, J.R. Kantor, Marvin Lowenthal, Harry A. Lurie, Richard B. Morris, Max Radin, I.L. Sharfman, Edward Sapir and Harry A. Wolfson.
“With the growing complexity and increasing importance of Jewish problems in the world in general and in the United States in particular,” the prospectus says, “it has become a matter of the utmost necessity to have accurate and scientific information and interpretation concerning Jewish questions.”
The quarterly will publish articles, book reviews, survey articles on literature, critical bibliographies, and will also issue monographs as supplementary volumes.
